Oh sweet Michigan...

Ok, all my friends know that every other year we go to the upper peninsula of Michigan for a family reunion. But, do any of you know why? What on earth would take us to this northern point?
So, here is a little peak into my family history...
Both my Grandpa and Grandma Steinen were raised in the small towns of Northern Michigan. My great grandpa (my grandpa's dad) was a german copper miner. The small town they lived in was built by the mine.

My Grandma Steinen's maiden name was Condon, and she was raised in Hancock, MI about ten miles north of Painesdale. Hancock is the gateway to the Keweenaw Peninsula. It is a beautiful area surrounded by Lake Superior and accessed by the Portage Canal Lift Bridge. Which is the biggest lift bridge in the world.

When my Grandpa Steinen came back from World War II he met my grandma, and they dated and then married. After my Grandpa graduated from Michigan Tech he, my grandma and my uncle bob moved to Illinois where they would stay and have the rest of their children. They never moved back to Northern Michigan but they always took their Summer vacations there. So all of their children came to love the beautiful North woods. And now they and their families (us!) gather there every two years for a family reunion - continuing to make wonderful family memories.

Ok, more details about our trip coming soon!
Love you,
Jayme
